In the summer the area aroud Sarzana is full of interesting events such as the "Palio dei quartieri" (local horse race), the “Soffitta nella strada” (attic in the street) every first Sunday of the month and for two weeks in August, The national antiques exhibition and market in the Firmafede fortress, the Festival of the mind which is now renowned all over the country, and many other cultural and non cultural events.

From Sarzana it is easy to reach the beach at Marinella, Lerici, Portovenere, the Cinque Terre, the marble quarries in Carrara, and many famous cities such as Pisa and Florence.

It is also possible to visit old villages in Lunigiana, with its castles, the ancient amphitheatre in Luni, the fortress and numerous churches located in the surrounding territory.
